The Economist article on alternatives to GPS and GNSS

The Economist just published an article on alternatives to GPS and GNSS.

SBQuantum and David Roy-Guay are a big part of the story.

The problem is real. A team led by Todd Humphreys at the University of Texas at Austin traced GPS disruptions since 2019 to a constellation of Russian satellites.
SBQ’s NV-diamond magnetometers can match readings of the Earth’s magnetic field to maps and, crucially provide data on both the strength AND direction of the field.

About SBQuantum

Founded and based in the quantum technology hub of Sherbrooke, Canada, SBQuantum is producing leading edge hardware in the field of quantum sensing, combined with advanced interpretation and compensation algorithms to extract insight from magnetics for a wide customer base spanning multiple industries. The company has obtained significant sums of non-dilutive financing to help propel it forward on its mission to bring to market powerful advanced sensors leveraging quantum effects. Its quantum magnetometer has already been tested at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Beyond testing its equipment in space via the MagQuest Challenge and through its contract with ESA, the company also intends to bring its miniaturized sensors to unmanned vehicles, and to a wide range of other use cases not possible with conventional sensing.
